The Mars 82140 is a 40 amp, 600 volt cartridge fuse used for branch circuit and feeder protection in commercial and industrial electrical systems.

The 600 volt rating extends application well beyond residential work, covering 480 volt three phase distribution common in commercial buildings, industrial plants, and larger rooftop mechanical equipment. Fuse voltage rating must equal or exceed the circuit voltage; applying a lower-rated fuse is unsafe because it may not reliably interrupt an arc at higher system voltage.

At 40 amps, this fuse commonly serves motor branch circuits, condensing unit feeds, packaged rooftop equipment, and distribution subfeeds in light commercial installations.

Before servicing, de-energize and lock out the circuit and confirm absence of voltage with a meter. Inspect the fuse clips for discoloration, pitting, or weak spring tension, as poor clip contact generates heat and causes premature fuse failure.
