The Mars M82917 is a 10 amp, 600 volt cartridge fuse in the FNQ series, used for control circuit and small load protection in commercial and industrial equipment.
The FNQ designation identifies a midget-class time delay fuse in a 13/32 by 1-1/2 inch body. Despite the compact size, the 600 volt rating allows application across the full range of standard industrial control and power voltages, which is why midget fuses are common in control panels where space is tight but system voltage is high.
Time delay characteristics let the fuse withstand the inrush associated with control transformer energization, contactor coil pickup, and solenoid valve operation without opening, while still clearing sustained overloads and short circuits. Without delay, a fuse sized close to the running load of an inductive control circuit would open on every energization.
Applications include control transformer primary and secondary protection, motor control circuits, solenoid and gas valve circuits, instrumentation and electronic control power, and general small load protection in HVAC, refrigeration, and industrial control panels.
Midget fuses are produced in several classes sharing similar dimensions but differing significantly in interrupting rating and time-current characteristic. Fitting the wrong class can leave a circuit inadequately protected or cause nuisance opening under normal load, so the full designation must be matched rather than amperage alone.
Verify the series, class, voltage rating, amperage, and dimensions against the original fuse and the holder. De-energize and lock out the panel and confirm absence of voltage before replacing any fuse.
