The Mars M82147 is a 45 amp, 600 volt time delay fuse in the TRS series, designated TRS45, supplied for motor and equipment branch circuit protection in commercial and industrial distribution.

The TRS series comprises Class RK5 dual element time delay fuses. Two elements operate in series: a short circuit element that clears high fault current almost instantly, and a thermal overload element that responds to sustained moderate overcurrent. The combination lets the fuse ride through motor starting inrush and transformer magnetizing surge without opening, while still interrupting real faults promptly.

Sizing close to running current is the practical advantage. A correctly sized time delay fuse will disconnect a motor drawing sustained elevated current from a seized bearing, failed capacitor, mechanical obstruction, or lost phase, before the windings are damaged beyond repair.

At 45 amps with a 600 volt rating, typical applications include three phase compressor and condensing unit circuits, commercial rooftop equipment, larger fan and pump motors, motor control centre branches, and equipment subfeeds on 208, 240, and 480 volt systems.

Class RK5 fuses are dimensionally compatible with Class H fuses but provide higher interrupting rating and current limitation. Rejection-style fuse holders accept Class R fuses only, physically preventing substitution with a lower-rated device during maintenance.

Confirm the class designation, voltage rating, amperage, body dimensions, and time delay characteristic match the original before installation. De-energize and lock out the circuit, verify absence of voltage with a properly rated meter, and inspect fuse clips for discoloration and adequate spring tension.
