Product Highlights
Description
The LPS43100 is an ITW LPS Tapmatic Cutting Fluid Edge Creme, 10 fl oz tube, case quantity 10, priced per each and sold in case quantity.
The creme form is the specification and it solves a problem specific to hand tapping and drilling. Liquid cutting fluid runs off. On a vertical hole, an overhead hole, or a piece of work held in a vice on a bench, a poured fluid is gone before the tap reaches depth, and the cut runs dry from there.
A creme stays where it is put. It clings to the tap, stays in the hole, and keeps working through the cut.
Why that matters is worth being direct about: cutting fluid is not lubricant in the ordinary sense. Its job is to carry heat away from the cutting edge and to prevent the chip from welding to the tool. A dry tap heats, the chip welds to the flute, the flute stops clearing, pressure rises — and the tap snaps in the hole. A broken tap in a nearly finished component is one of the worst outcomes in a workshop, because hardened tool steel does not drill out.
For hand tapping, where the operator has no coolant flow at all, this is the difference between a clean thread and a scrapped part.
The tube format suits a toolbox rather than a machine.
