Jackson Safety JKSS38110 Sellstrom 380 Series Face Shield Dual Crown Clear Lens

The Jackson Safety JKSS38110 is a Sellstrom 380 Series face shield with dual crown, window, and ratcheting headgear — clear lens, uncoated.

The dual crown is the specification worth explaining. A crown is the band over the top of the headgear that carries the shield's pivot. A single crown carries the load at one point; a dual crown uses two, which distributes the shield's weight and — more usefully — keeps a wide window stable. The 380 Series windows are 19-1/2 inches across, and a wide shield on a single pivot flexes and wobbles. Two crowns hold it steady.

Uncoated is the other specification and it is a genuine choice rather than an omission. Anti-fog coatings are surface treatments: they work, and they are destroyed by abrasive cleaning. In environments where shields get wiped with whatever is to hand, the coating is gone in a week and the customer is paying for something they no longer have. Uncoated windows cost less and there is nothing to lose.

For sealed, humid, or exertive work, the coating is worth having. For dry general work with rough handling, uncoated is honest value.

Supplying headgear and window together makes this a complete first purchase — windows are the consumable thereafter.

A face shield is secondary protection; eye protection goes underneath.
