INFICON Leak Detector Replacement Sensor 703-020-G1

The INFICON 703-020-G1 is a replacement sensor for INFICON electronic refrigerant leak detectors.

Electronic leak detectors depend on a consumable sensing element, and that element's condition determines whether the instrument finds leaks or misses them.

Sensors degrade with use and with exposure. Detecting a large leak saturates the sensor and shortens its life. Exposure to solvents, cleaning chemicals, silicone sprays, and cigarette smoke contaminates it. And sensors deteriorate gradually with age even in storage.

The difficulty is that a degraded sensor gives no clear indication of its condition. The detector powers up, responds to its self test, and appears to work, but its sensitivity has fallen and small leaks pass undetected. A technician then concludes a system has no leak when it does, and the system is recharged only to fail again.

The remedy is to verify the detector against a known reference before relying on a negative result. Calibrated reference leaks are available for this, and some detectors include a check function.

Replacing the sensor on the manufacturer's recommended interval, rather than waiting for obvious failure, maintains the instrument's usefulness.

Applications include refrigeration and air conditioning leak detection and service.
