Product Highlights
Description
The Harris 1400355 HSLT604 is a trigger operated torch handle for air fuel brazing and soldering.
Trigger operated torches ignite and extinguish with a trigger rather than requiring a valve to be adjusted and a striker used for each lighting.
The practical benefit is on work involving many separate joints. A technician making a series of connections with a conventional torch either leaves it burning between joints, which wastes gas and leaves an unattended flame, or relights it each time.
A trigger torch allows the flame to be extinguished between joints and restored instantly, which saves gas and removes the unattended flame.
The safety benefit is real. An unattended lit torch set down while the technician positions the next joint is a recognised cause of fires and burns, and in a confined space it is also consuming oxygen and producing combustion products.
Trigger mechanisms and their ignition systems are wear items and can fail, most often through the igniter failing to spark. A striker should still be carried, since a torch that will not self ignite is otherwise unusable.
The torch should never be left running unlit while an ignition problem is investigated, as accumulating fuel gas is hazardous.
Confirm the handle accepts the tips required and suits the fuel gas in use, inspect the hose and connections before use, leak test with soap solution, and observe hot work precautions including a fire watch.
