The Hardcast 359928 Forti Flash is a four inch by 75 foot flashing membrane used for weatherproofing penetrations and joints.

Flashing membrane is a self adhering weatherproofing material used where something passes through a building envelope or where two components meet and must shed water.

In HVAC work the applications are specific. Line set and refrigerant pipe penetrations through exterior walls. Condensate drain penetrations. Rooftop curb and equipment base details. Duct penetrations through walls and roofs. Any point where a service crosses the weather barrier.

These penetrations are among the more common sources of water intrusion in a building, and the reason is that they are made by trades whose primary concern is the service rather than the envelope. A hole is drilled, the pipe is pushed through, and the sealing is done with whatever is available.

Proper detailing requires the membrane to be integrated with the building's drainage plane so that water running down the wall is directed over the flashing rather than behind it. That means the membrane must lap correctly with the weather barrier above and below, in shingle fashion.

Sealing a penetration with a bead of sealant alone is not equivalent, since sealant degrades and provides no drainage path.

Confirm the membrane suits the substrate and the temperature at application, and follow the manufacturer's lapping requirements.
