Fantech Backdraft Damper 8IN RSK8

The Fantech RSK8 is an 8 inch backdraft damper for installation in round duct on ventilation and exhaust systems.

Eight inch is among the most commonly used duct sizes in residential and light commercial ventilation, covering larger bathroom and laundry exhaust, kitchen ventilation, workshop and utility exhaust, attic ventilation, and inline fan installations serving multiple points.

The damper's purpose is to close the duct when the fan is off. Reverse airflow through an undamped duct carries several penalties that accumulate quietly: conditioned air is lost continuously, wind pressure drives outdoor air back into the building, insects and debris enter, and in cold climates reverse flow can introduce enough cold air to cause condensation and frost within the duct itself. On bathroom and kitchen exhaust, odours held in the duct return to the room.

Building depressurisation is the less obvious consideration. Open exhaust paths contribute to negative pressure indoors, and in buildings with naturally vented gas appliances that depressurisation can be sufficient to cause backdrafting at a draft hood, which is a combustion safety issue rather than a comfort one.

Install in the correct orientation so the blade can fall closed under gravity, support the duct independently on both sides, and verify the blade opens fully at fan operating speed and closes completely when the fan stops.
