Fantech Backdraft Damper 4IN RSK4

The Fantech RSK4 is a 4 inch backdraft damper for installation in round duct on small ventilation and exhaust systems.

Four inch duct serves the lightest exhaust duties: powder rooms, small bathrooms, compact utility spaces, and appliance vents. The damper prevents reverse airflow when the fan is off, closing what would otherwise be a permanent opening between the conditioned space and outdoors.

On small systems, damper resistance deserves particular attention. Low powered fans on 4 inch duct often have limited static pressure capability, and the pressure required to lift the damper blade is a real fraction of what the fan can produce. Where a small fan is installed on a long or convoluted 4 inch run and a damper is added, the combined resistance can reduce delivered airflow to the point where the ventilation is ineffective. Keeping the run short, direct, and in smooth rigid duct is what preserves the airflow budget for the damper.

Some terminations include an integral damper, in which case a second damper in the run adds resistance without benefit. Checking what is already installed at the termination avoids duplicating the function.

Install in the correct orientation so the blade closes under gravity, and verify full opening with the fan running.
