Fantech Backdraft Damper 12" RSK12

The Fantech RSK12 is a 12 inch backdraft damper for installation in round duct on ventilation and exhaust systems.

Twelve inch duct indicates a high volume application: commercial exhaust, large workshop or garage ventilation, agricultural and equipment building ventilation, multi-point residential systems manifolded to a single large fan, or make-up air paths.

At this size, the volume of air that would move in reverse through an undamped duct is substantial, and the energy consequence of leaving a 12 inch opening in the building envelope is correspondingly significant. A damper on a duct this size is not an optional refinement.

Two considerations apply particularly at larger diameters. The first is that the blade is heavy, requiring meaningful fan pressure to lift it fully open; a damper that only partially opens restricts a system that is presumably designed for high airflow. The second is support. A 12 inch damper adds weight to the duct run, and the duct must be supported independently on both sides so the damper housing carries no load and the joints are not stressed.

Verify the damper opens fully with the fan at operating speed and closes completely when it stops, and confirm the installed orientation permits the blade to fall closed under gravity.

Applications include commercial, agricultural, and light industrial exhaust and ventilation systems, and high volume residential ventilation.
