Edison Fuse Time Delay 45 Amp ECNR45

The Edison ECNR45 is a 45 amp time delay fuse for branch circuit and equipment protection where inductive loads produce high inrush current at startup.

The time delay characteristic allows the fuse to ride through the brief, high current draw that occurs when motors, compressors, and transformers energize, while still clearing sustained overloads and short circuits without delay. Fast-acting fuses cannot serve this role in motor circuits: sized for the running load they open on every start, and sized to survive inrush they no longer protect the conductors or the motor windings.

Because a time delay fuse can be sized close to the actual running current, it provides meaningful protection against the conditions that damage motors. Locked rotor from a seized bearing or failed capacitor, a shorted winding, mechanical binding, or loss of a phase on a three phase supply all produce sustained elevated current that a correctly sized time delay fuse will interrupt.

Applications include air conditioning and refrigeration condensing units, compressor and condenser fan circuits, pump and fan motors, fused disconnects serving mechanical equipment, transformer primary protection, and general equipment branch circuits.

Correct sizing is governed by the equipment nameplate, which specifies the minimum circuit ampacity determining conductor size and the maximum overcurrent protective device rating that must not be exceeded. Increasing fuse size to eliminate repeated opening treats the symptom rather than the fault and removes manufacturer-specified protection.

Confirm the voltage rating, fuse class, and dimensions match the original and the holder before installation. De-energize and lock out the circuit, verify absence of voltage, and follow applicable electrical code.
