Description
The DiversiTech 626-38071 is a fuse puller, a hand tool for removing and inserting cartridge fuses safely.
Fuse pullers exist because removing a cartridge fuse by hand or with metal pliers is hazardous. The fuse sits in spring clips that grip it firmly, so meaningful force is required, and the fuse body and clips are at line potential unless the circuit has been isolated.
Metal pliers create a short circuit path between the fuse clips or between a clip and any earthed metal nearby. Under fault conditions that produces an arc flash, and disconnect enclosures carry enough available fault current to make that extremely dangerous.
A fuse puller is made of insulating material and is shaped to grip the fuse body squarely, so the fuse comes out straight rather than being levered against one clip.
The tool does not substitute for isolation. Circuits should be de energised, locked out, and verified dead with a tester before fuses are handled, and the tester should itself be proved on a known live source before and after.
Testing fuses in place with a meter is possible but requires care, and removing them for testing is often clearer.
Confirm the puller suits the fuse sizes handled, inspect it for cracks or damage before use, and follow safe isolation procedures regardless of the tool used.
