DiversiTech Capacitor 70+10/440/RND PRCFD7010A

The DiversiTech PRCFD7010A is a round dual run capacitor rated 70 plus 10 microfarad at 440 volts for large single-phase compressor and condenser fan motor duty.

Values in this range are associated with five ton residential and light commercial condensing units, the upper end of single-phase equipment. The 10 microfarad fan section corresponds to a correspondingly larger condenser fan motor, typically a third horsepower unit moving the airflow required across a large condenser coil.

Equipment of this size is unforgiving of airflow problems on the condenser side. A large condensing unit with a fouled coil or a fan motor running slow on inadequate capacitance builds head pressure quickly, and high head pressure raises compressor current, compartment temperature, and the stress on every electrical component including the capacitor itself. The failures compound.

When servicing a unit of this capacity, checking condenser coil cleanliness and measuring fan motor current belong in the same visit as the capacitor measurement.

The 70 microfarad section serves the compressor through HERM and the 10 microfarad section serves the condenser fan motor through FAN.
