DiversiTech Capacitor 30+10/440/OVL POCFD3010A

The DiversiTech POCFD3010A is a dual run capacitor rated 30 plus 10 microfarad at 440 volts, supplied for combined compressor and condenser fan motor duty in residential and light commercial condensing units.

A dual run capacitor combines two capacitor sections in one case with three terminal groups: HERM, connecting to the hermetic compressor and carrying the larger value; FAN, connecting to the condenser fan motor and carrying the smaller value; and C for common, which connects to the supply and is shared by both sections. Reversing the HERM and FAN connections applies the wrong capacitance to each motor and will damage both.

In this unit the 30 microfarad section serves the compressor and the 10 microfarad section serves the condenser fan motor.

Dual capacitors are used because they save space and cost in the condensing unit, but they introduce a shared failure mode: when the compressor section fails, the fan section is discarded with it even if it remains serviceable, and the reverse is equally true.

Discharge both sections before handling. Confirm both capacitance values, the voltage rating, case dimensions, and terminal layout before ordering, and photograph the wiring before disconnecting it.
