Product Highlights
Description
The CPS TLMKC18 is a magnetic service accessory used with refrigeration solenoid valves during testing and service work.
A solenoid valve opens and closes an refrigerant line electrically, using a coil that generates a magnetic field to lift an internal plunger. Systems use them for pump down control, liquid line isolation, hot gas defrost, and capacity control.
Because the valve is held open by the magnetic field of an energised coil, its operation can be assessed by whether that field is present and whether the plunger responds. A coil that has failed open produces no field and the valve stays closed. A plunger that has stuck, usually from debris or corrosion, will not respond to a field that is present.
Distinguishing between these two possibilities is the common diagnostic question, and it determines whether the coil or the valve body needs attention. Checking for a magnetic field at an energised coil separates an electrical fault from a mechanical one directly.
Magnetic tools are also used to actuate a solenoid manually for testing, allowing valve operation to be confirmed without energising the control circuit.
Solenoid valve coils are frequently replaceable independently of the valve body, which makes an accurate diagnosis worth the effort.
Confirm the accessory suits the valve and coil types in service, and verify the manufacturer's intended application before use. Disconnect and lock out power before any work on control circuits.
