The Builder's Best 110258 is a 6 inch diameter by 8 foot flexible aluminum duct, supplied for exhaust and vent connections.

Flexible aluminum duct is used where a rigid connection is impractical: making the final connection between a fan or appliance and a rigid duct run, negotiating an offset in a confined space, or connecting through a joist bay or wall cavity where rigid pipe cannot be assembled.

Its convenience carries a real airflow penalty that is worth understanding. The corrugated interior of flexible duct produces substantially more resistance than smooth rigid pipe of the same diameter, and that penalty multiplies when the duct is installed compressed rather than fully extended, or run with sags and bends. In exhaust applications, the resulting loss of airflow is the usual reason a fan that is correctly sized on paper fails to clear moisture in practice.
