ACGU Acgukit Security Cage

The ACGU ACGUKIT is a condenser security cage, enclosing an outdoor condensing unit to deter theft and vandalism.

Air conditioning condenser theft is driven by the scrap value of the copper in the coil and the compressor, and the units most frequently targeted are those in unoccupied or lightly supervised locations: vacant rental properties, seasonal homes, churches, schools during recess periods, small commercial buildings after hours, and ground mounted units at the rear of properties out of sight from the street.

The cost of the theft substantially exceeds the scrap value the thief realises. Beyond the replacement equipment and labour, the refrigerant charge is released, the line set is usually cut and must be repaired or replaced, the system must be evacuated and recommissioned, and the building is without cooling in the interim. In commercial and institutional settings the disruption often exceeds the equipment cost.

A security cage addresses this by making the unit substantially harder and slower to reach, which is generally sufficient, since these thefts depend on speed and low visibility.

Installation must preserve the condenser's airflow and service access. Condensers reject heat through the coil and require unobstructed airflow on all sides and clear discharge above; a cage that restricts airflow raises head pressure, reduces capacity, and shortens compressor life. Anchoring to the pad or slab is what gives the cage its value.
